Release notes
Every TopoKit release, newest first. The same notes appear in the app under Settings, in What’s New.
Version 1.1.1 Beta
Not on the App Store yet.
New “No Map” Base Option
The map-style button now includes a No Map option that hides the base map entirely, so you can view just your own points, lines, shapes, and imported maps over a plain background that follows your light or dark theme.
Version 1.1
Drawing and Measuring Are Now One Set of Tools
Add Line, Add Polygon, and the new Add Circle tool show live measurements while you draw — distance, area, radius, and more, with tappable unit switching. Just measuring? Read the numbers and close the tool — nothing is saved unless you press Save. The tools draw with your default styles from Settings.
Choose How Imported Files Look
Imported tracks and shapes keep their familiar neutral style, and Settings now has separate Imported Line and Imported Polygon styles — so the look of your imports is independent from the style used while drawing.
Much Faster with Big Projects
Importing large files is dramatically faster, the map stays smooth while you pan and zoom, and layers no longer rebuild from scratch when something changes. Project files are also about half their previous size, so they open quicker and sync less data.
Better Imported Maps
Very large maps now keep their full detail without running out of memory, misaligned georeferenced PDFs place correctly, several Canadian coordinate systems are fixed, and a crash when importing custom-projection maps is gone. Georeferenced PDFs also redraw far faster while zooming and panning — especially on iPhone with many map sheets loaded.
Smoother Startup
Your last project starts opening immediately instead of waiting on cloud storage — and reopens reliably even when the cloud is slow. The first seconds after a project opens have far less flicker.
Fixed: Opening Files from Other Apps
Choosing “Open in TopoKit” for a map or GPS file from the Files app (or another app) now imports it into your project instead of doing nothing.
Stability Fixes Across the Board
Style editors no longer open half-empty on iPhone, pop-ups no longer break the map, edit panels only save what you actually changed, and GPS files with bad values can no longer block a project from saving.
Version 1.0.2
Edited Point Coordinates Now Save
Typing new coordinates into a point and tapping Done now saves them, even if you didn't dismiss the keyboard first. Previously the edit was discarded silently and the point snapped back to its old location.
Tracks Now Keep Full GPS Data
Recorded tracks keep elevation, timestamps, and accuracy on every point — not just the start and end. Your speed, elevation gain, and timing data are preserved when you save the track.
GPX Exports Work With Other Apps
Tracks exported as GPX now include per-point elevation and time, so they import cleanly into other GPS apps. Previous exports were technically valid but missed information that other apps expect to see.
KML Tracks Use Google Earth Format
Recorded tracks export as proper Google Earth track elements with 3D positions and per-point timestamps, so they animate and display correctly when opened elsewhere.
GeoJSON Now Includes Elevation
GeoJSON exports include the third dimension on every coordinate when elevation data is available, plus per-point timestamps for tracks.
GeoPackage 3D Support
GeoPackage exports use 3D geometry when features have elevation, so QGIS and ArcGIS recognize the data without manual conversion.
Imports Preserve More Data
Tracks and waypoints imported from GPX, KML, GeoJSON, and GeoPackage files keep their elevation and timestamp information, so a round-trip through TopoKit no longer strips per-point data.
Tap-to-Reopen Toolbar Tab Fixed
When the side toolbar is hidden, the small tab on the screen edge is now reliably tappable in Glass appearance mode. Previously the rounded glass shape shrank the tap area and made the tab feel unresponsive.
Debug Mode for Reporting Problems
A new Developer & Diagnostics section in Settings lets you turn on Debug Mode. When something goes wrong, the app shows what happened and lets you email the details to us with one tap, so problems are much easier to track down and fix.
Crash Reporting
If the app closes unexpectedly, the next time you open it you'll be asked whether to send a report. Sharing it helps us find and fix the cause quickly. You can always decline.
Version 1.0.1
Faster Elevation Downloads
Elevation data downloads are faster and the progress bar now shows smooth progress while each tile downloads, instead of jumping only when a tile finishes.
Crash Recovery for Tracks
If the app closes unexpectedly during a recording, you can recover your track on next launch.
Offline Pinning
Projects pinned for offline now keep your rasters and photos in sync, not just the project file.
Recording Profiles Redesigned
New names, clearer accuracy thresholds, and a new Record All Fixes option for raw GPS data.
Better GPS Feedback
See right away when signal is weak or Precise Location is disabled.
More Tile Layers Supported
Works with more tile servers.
Stability Improvements
Better offline tile caching, crash fixes for vector file imports, and under-the-hood reliability work.
Version 1.0
